Rocketeer
Summer arrived, after a long wait, and with it brought my annual road trip for Water Rokit. So I packed up my Water Rokits, recycled carbonated bottles, and set off. Looking forward, as always, to countless exhilarating Rokit launches, both children and adults engaging with gasps, laughter, and as ever, a real sense of wonderment at that important role that rockets play in our world, as well as disbelief about how high the Water Rokit can launch.
Reach for the Sky with TecGirls
My first stop of this road trip was at Helston Aviation Naval Base in the far West of Cornwall with TecGirls for an event called “Reach for the Sky”. With creative input from tech, education, and creative organisations, this event illustrated the many opportunities that young women have in developing a career in Aerospace and Space. The event was held in a large hanger with an impressive Naval Jet just outside the doors – our Water Rokit launch luckily avoided any impact!
Fellow attendees, including Spaceport Cornwall and Truro & Penwith College, offered workshops, experiments, and talks for the kids. It was a special day of educational information and the exhilaration experienced will surely have ignited sparks for fulfilling careers in the Aerospace and Space industries, in a future that has yet to be written.
National Physics Laboratory (NPL)
For the next event, I partnered up with my colleague, Susan Kennedy, and together we travelled to the National Physics Laboratory’s Water Rocket Challenge in Teddington to absorb the fun of their annual Water Rokit competition. A scorching hot day, with teams of children from local schools and Scout packs, all of whom had diligently worked hard to invent and launch their Water Rokits. Learning all about what it takes to get a Rokit into flight, the children showed their creative and competitive streaks. The sky was filled with rockets of all sizes, designs, and capabilities, launching on target, too long, too short, but always with excitement. It didn’t take long for me to get a launch zone and showcase our brilliant kit; we will be back next year with a team! We were happy to make a donation to In2scienceUK as part of our commitment to helping develop STEM to everyone.
Mojo Pitch
The following day, I headed to Chelsea Football Club where I was able to showcase our world-famous Water Rokit to numerous World Class Distributors with Mojo Nation. After more than 40 years of educating young Rocketeers all over planet Earth, it is time for our small family-run company to expand. Space is back with a boom and since our Water Rokit is one of the best STEM tools on the market, the time is right for us to spread our wings (or fire up the boosters!).
We created some wonderful opportunities to further our reach into the global market of STEM education. Meeting Hasbro from the United States and Jumbo from the Netherlands, amongst lots of great companies – the future is looking good for our company. Water Rokit – STEM’s best kept secret is not so secret anymore!
SciTechConf
So, after Cornwall and two events in London, my road trip then lead me to Birmingham where I got to spend the whole day at a Sci Tech event engaging with Science Technicians from across the Midlands and further afield. It was wonderful to learn and hear first-hand how much Water Rokit is loved and the key role it plays in so many Science departments across the country.
The big excitement of the day was the release of the first images of our new tech product that will be launched this Autumn Term 2024, creating a huge buzz of interest at the event. It is called the “Rokit Logger” and it’s an Altimeter and Accelerometer that will measure the height and speed of the Water Rokit, teaching children about Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion and the Rocket Equation. There was so much genuine interest and excitement, you could feel the passion of STEM in the hearts of all the teaching professionals present.
Timstar Supertech Meet
The following week brought about our final event of this exhilarating, whirlwind road trip. A day to support one of our educational suppliers – WF Education. Susan and I headed up to Stowe School for the Timstar Supertech Meet in Buckingham, a beautiful landscape to fly the Water Rokit and again to show lab technicians and teachers the true value of our product. WF Education don’t just supply educational equipment, they advise and educate their customers too.
Have yourself some Water Rokit fun!
Whether you are launching our precision Water Rokit or a big one, like NASA’s, the principles are the same. The science that sits behind our Water Rokit covers a wealth of learning through hands on experimentation. So, grab yourself a Water Rokit if you haven’t got one, and know that you will always remember the day you flew your first Water Rokit! And if you are a teacher, Scout Leader, Holiday Camp team member, Mum, Dad, Grandad, Grandma or favourite Aunt, you will be creating memories for kids that last a lifetime. You might even inspire them to get into STEM – we call it stealth learning.
