What is a Junior Rocketeer Activity Day?
Through popular demand from schools and activity clubs, Water Rokit has hit the road and gone mobile!
With our Junior Rocketeer Activity Day, you’ll have your very own Rokit Technician for the day to inspire your class into learning STEM.
During the day, your students will learn about the fundamentals of rocketry, the physics behind how rockets fly, and what their Water Rokit has in common with NASA’s and SpaceX’s rockets. Your class will then put this knowledge into practice by launching their own rockets, and demonstrate the importance of self-learning through experiments and trial and error, including adding an ‘eggonaut’ payload.
By the end of the day, your students will be qualified Junior Rocketeers with a certificate to take home.
The Junior Rocketeer Activity Day is flexible regarding age of attendees, and if there is a particular part of STEM you would like your Rokit Technician to focus on, we can tailor your day to this too.
What does a Junior Rocketeer Activity Day look like?
Morning
- Elements – we are all Space dust
- How old is the universe?
- The Hubble and James Webb telescope
- Why are rockets so important in our everyday lives?
- What are satellites and what do they do?
- Water Rokit NASA-inspired launch video
- The International Space Station
- How do rockets work?
- What does the Water Rokit have in common with NASA and SpaceX’s rockets?
- The Artemis Programme
- How a rocket works
- Newton’s Third Law – Thrust
- The Balloon experiment
- Stability – centre of mass and centre of gravity
- Reusability and recycling
Next, the class put what they’ve learnt into practice – we build our Water Rokits in groups of 2-3, head outside, launch them, and record the results to work out the optimum air/water ratio.
Afternoon
- Careers in Space and Aerospace
- Impact forces
The students then get the opportunity to customise their Water Rokit by adding an ‘eggonaut’ payload (with the aim to protect the egg well enough that it survives its flight into Space!) We then take these customised rockets outside to launch and record the results. To finish the day, each student will receive a certificate of their Junior Rocketeer achievement.
The Junior Rocketeer Activity Day is aimed at 9-14 year olds, but the course can be adapted to younger and older audiences by request.
Time: 9:45am to 2:30pm
Junior Rocketeer Activity Days start from £499 – £999 (depending on location) + VAT and travel expenses.
