Wow, what an incredible event the Science Jamboree at Discovery Park in Sandwich, Kent was! The doors were finally thrown open to over 750 primary school children, marking a thrilling return since lockdown. The East Kent Science Jamboree was an absolute blast!
This magnificent extravaganza, organised for the eighth time by the Sandwich-based science and innovation park, brought together the crème de la crème of companies involved in life sciences, space travel, mechanical engineering, renewable energy, food production, and rail operations. The air was buzzing with excitement as companies, both on-site and off-site, united to ignite a passion for science in the bright minds of the next generation.
Canterbury, Dover, and Thanet witnessed an awe-inspiring sight as pupils and their enthusiastic teachers flocked from 24 schools to attend the Science Jamboree. This remarkable event was made possible by Canterbury Christ Church University and its STEM Hub initiative, which tirelessly provides information and organises events to inspire the scientists, technologists, engineers, and mathematicians of tomorrow. They truly deserve a standing ovation!

Let me tell you, Friday was an absolute standout day! I felt immensely privileged to be part of one of the most powerful STEM events ever held at the Discovery Centre. The atmosphere was electric, and the air crackled with curiosity as children were fully immersed in the vibrant world of Science, Technology, and Engineering.
The dedicated team behind this project left no stone unturned to encourage and inspire the next generation. As we ventured into the day, different classes from primary schools across the local area got to experience thrilling 20-minute sessions with Water Rokit. It was non-stop action as each group dove headfirst into the exhilarating highlights of every STEM subject.
Imagine being in the heart of this extraordinary complex, a vast open space pulsating with energy. Launch after launch, the excitement was contagious! The children were simply amazing – bright, attentive, and actively engaged in every moment. Their thirst for knowledge was unquenchable. We delved into fascinating discussions about NASA, the significance of rockets and satellites in our daily lives, the mind-boggling physics behind rocket flight, and, of course, all the fun and excitement of rockets and space exploration! It was a day when I witnessed the light bulbs turning on in the children’s heads, with ideas and creativity lighting up their faces.
This event was nothing short of remarkable – an experience that will be cherished for years to come. And mark my words, we will meet again next year for another mind-blowing adventure!
