Water Rokit Puts Plastic Out of Their Space!

Water Rokit is the original, precision-engineered water rocket from the 1980s. Back then we thought little about the amount of plastic that was slowly being produced and discarded around planet Earth. Now, the plastic waste issue has become too big to ignore so Water Rokit is proud to be selling our iconic kit without the plastic bottle – saving on plastic, packaging and postage.

“Yes, we are all about STEM and education, but we felt we were missing an opportunity to bring environmental education into our fold.”

Kids today, who are well versed in the three “R”s… that’s Reduce, Reuse and Recycle… are being encouraged to recycle and upcycle their plastic waste into rockets! Teaching them to look at waste a different way – a source of new things; something that can be saved and re-purposed. Making this STEM tool is the perfect way to help children look at alternative uses to what they previously regarded as ‘waste’.

“So, yes – we are now selling a space and science education rocket launch kit that is essentially ‘incomplete’. But we felt that environmental education was more pressing to address – these ‘incomplete’ rocket kits now drive a renewed launch mission: to raise awareness and educate kids on reuse.”

This change of direction with the emphasis on reuse caught the attention of Wastebuster – the UK environmental non-profit and Products of Change member, helping children to aspire to care for their environment and to make sustainable choices in the future. Water Rokit is now in partnership with Wastebuster, who are introducing the educational kit to schools all over the UK and Europe. It’s really taking off!

Rockets and space travel are very topical currently, with the NASA Artemis programme big news worldwide. It fits with the Water Rokit NASA-themed kits – making the plastic bottle upcycling even more fun, with limited edition NASA stickers included in each box.

Even the name Artemis – which comes from Apollo’s twin in Greek Mythology – strikes a chord with Dan Wilkins, who has a twin brother himself, as well as twin sisters! There is something out there in the universe guiding Water Rokit from its inception in 1983 – forty years on – to being part of a new generation of Junior Rocketeers and Waste Warriors, evolving with the NASA space programme to make more giant steps for Human Kind.
