In January, Rockets for All – a programme for schools inspiring over 3,000 young people aged 14-18 with exciting career opportunities in the UK Space Industry – was launched by Big Ideas in partnership with Imperial Space Lab and the UK Space Agency.
The Rockets for All programme includes:
- A series of digital workshops that were run in January, enabling students to meet expert role models working across the UK Space sector.
- Support for attending students to run their own water rocket competitions in their schools using our very own Water Rokit kits and brand new Rokit Loggers.
- A digital celebration event with the first British astronaut Helen Sharman in March.
- The chance to win an in-person experience delivered by Imperial Space Lab experts.
Â
January’s series of digital workshops went extraordinarily well, with experts like Dr. Simon Foster and Dr. Helen O’Brien sharing their experience in the Space sector, how they ended up where they are now, and Space industry training opportunities the students may wish to pursue a career in.
Read more about the success of these workshops on the Big Ideas website.
Water Rocket Competitions
Very excitingly, the Water Rokit kits and Rokit Loggers (measuring the height and speed of the rockets) have been shipped out to all the participating schools for their water rocket competitions!
Competitions are taking place right now and we can’t wait to see the footage all the schools capture!
Celebration Event with Helen Sharman
To complete the Rockets for All programme before the lucky winning schools of the in-person experience with Imperial Space Lab experts are announced, an eye-opening digital workshop will be held on Monday 17th March where attending schools will be able to meet Britain’s very first astronaut, Helen Sharman! This inspiring event will allow young people to hear about Helen’s experiences in Space, what life is like as an astronaut, and to ask questions.
What a fantastic opportunity for young Space enthusiasts!
